How much does music production cost in Sheffield?
Rates depend entirely on the scope of your project. Mixing starts from a day rate; full production projects are quoted individually after an initial conversation. Flexible payment plans are available via GoCardless, so cost doesn't have to be a barrier. Get in touch and JB will come back with a straight answer within 24 hours.
Can I book a remote mixing or production session?
Yes — and it's one of the most common ways JB works. Send your stems or project files and get back a professional mix with revision rounds included. Mid-project check-ins happen over video call or session-share software. Artists in the UK, Europe, North America and Australia work this way regularly. Read more about remote sessions →
What studio equipment does Crystal Ship Studio have?
The centrepiece is a 48-channel SSL 4048 G+ console — one of the most respected desks in professional audio. It's paired with a full Neve outboard preamp chain and a live room designed to BBC acoustic standards. In-the-box sessions are also available when the brief calls for it. Full studio details →
Where is Crystal Ship Studio?
Crystal Ship Studio is in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK. Sheffield has a deep musical heritage — the Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, The Human League, Bring Me the Horizon. The studio sits in that tradition. For artists who can't travel, remote sessions are available worldwide. See the studio →
Do you work with independent artists or only established acts?
The majority of JB's work is with independent artists — from first demos to BBC-playlisted releases. If you're serious about your music, the experience level doesn't matter. Artist development and mentorship services are also available for artists at earlier stages. Read about artist development →
What genres do you specialise in?
Groovy, dirty, jazzy, soulful, trippy — if it has soul, it's on the table. JB has production and mixing credits across soul, jazz, funk, indie rock, electronic and experimental music. The common thread is feel and intention, not genre.
What's the turnaround time for mixing?
Standard turnaround for a mix is 5–7 working days. Rush delivery is available on request. Revision rounds are included as standard — JB won't send you a mix and disappear. The process is collaborative from start to finish.
Can JB Pilon play on my record?
Yes. JB plays guitar, synthesiser and keys, and regularly contributes performances to production projects where the track needs it. If you want live instrumentation as part of your production, mention it when you get in touch.
Do you offer music supervision for film and TV?
Yes — sourcing, licensing and placing music for film, TV, advertising and digital content is one of JB's services. This includes track sourcing, sync licensing, original score commissioning, and rights clearance. More about music supervision →
Can JB Pilon speak at my university or music school?
